The news for Office 11: the beta test of the Windows version starts – Macitynet.it
Office is a key product for the Redmond giant, since about a third of its turnover derives from this suite of applications, and important changes are in the pipeline for this release.
Microsoft wants to push particularly on the business side, in particular in customer relationship management (CRM) and in enterprise resource planning (ERP). This is understandable, given that very few home users are willing to spend a significant amount to equip themselves with a group of decidedly superabundant applications for home use, and of which there are cheaper or even free counterparts. Office, this is the revolution, alongside the saving of files in proprietary formats XML in order to fully benefit from the possibility of exchanging data with the back-end .Net and with all other third-party services that adopt XML. The risky strategy, as it forces MS to abandon the grip on proprietary formats, perhaps the motivation that has most encouraged the dominance of Office on the market.
Another novelty that the initial idea of providing Office 11 users with the possibility of subscribing to a series of additional Web Services was rejected.
Office 11 will also include a new application called XDocs, which allows you to combine data from all applications in the suite together. The product may be sold separately.
The beta testing program will include 6000 people inside MS and at least 6000 others outside.
