Rim, careful, iPhone arrives. The ideal warning comes from Needham & Co., contained in a note drawn up by Charles Wolf with which he reduced the rating to the Canadian company.
The reason why Wolf brought the RIMM title from Hold to Underperform stems from the iPhone market launch. The threat is not the result of the assault on the business market, where Apple could struggle to undermine the dominance of the Blackberry, when the fact that the Apple phone seems to be able to stop growth in the consumer sector where in the last few months Rim has it was a long way.
The increase in sales of Blackberry in the consumer sector, Wolf says, mainly the result of a lack of competition, a situation that ceased on 11 July. 'Although this is not a battle where only one will remain standing – says Wolf – there is little doubt that iPhone will end up affecting Blackberry sales.
The analyst believes little in Rim's effective response. Thunder, which should contrast iPhone on the same level, probably will not be able to imitate the secret formula of iPhone, the tight integration between software and hardware 'which – says Wolf – creates the unique experience of using the iPhone. Blackberries then have no chance to evolve into a development platform for applications like iPhone. '
