Office for iPad will support mice and trackpads later this year

Apple introduced full mouse and trackpad support with iOS and iPadOS 13.4. In particular, the tablets of the house of Cupertino benefit from it and they go one step further to act as valid tools of personal productivity, provided they have the appropriate apps. Apple has updated its iWork suite to take advantage of the new features, Microsoft is also doing the same with Office for iPad but it will take longer.

The mouse and trackpad support in Office applications optimized for iPad is in development, but it will arrive not before autumn as reported by TechCrunch. The indiscretions are corroborated by another source often well informed about the events of the Redmond house: Tom Warren of The Verge confirms the maximum period for the arrival of the functionality, but does not add other details on the release plans.

Microsoft released the unified Office app for iOS and iPadOS in February, but continues to make Word, Excel and Powerpoint available individually in the App Store. The update to manage mouse and trackpad is likely to affect both the recent unified app and the individual ones. In principle it can be said that by the end of the year Microsoft will allow you to interact with the functions of the suite using the new input tools.

Remember that iPadOS 13.4 has brought with it a cursor with a redesigned design and the ability to manage trackpad and mouse both Bluetooth and via USB. iPad Pro 2020 (reviewed last month) and the Magic Keyboard (7 reasons to buy it and 7 not to do it) represent the latest products with which Apple is aimed at users looking for alternatives to the notebook for carrying out activities such as creation of Office documents.
