Nvidia sues 3dfx. It is learned from a statement by Nvidia itself in which the producers of GeForce claim to have asked the district court of Northern California "to prevent 3dfx from producing, selling and exporting the following products: Voodoo 3, Voodoo 4, Voodoo 5 products of the VSA-100 family and all the cards that contain the same chips ”. Nvidia also requires compensation for economic damage caused by infringement of intellectual property protection laws.

The press release does not specify exactly which intellectual property 3dfx has usurped, but lists the reference patents, almost all quite recent.

"At Nvidia we invest millions of dollars each year to stay at the forefront of 3D acceleration. We cannot allow the benefits of these investments to illegally benefit our competitors. "

The struggle between the two manufacturers of acceleration boards, long since opened with the smallest, but dynamic and innovative, Nvidia in pursuit of the lead in the post-sale market that was once firmly in the hands of 3dfx, thus reaches a turning point which will most likely engage law firms for months. Let us remember that both 3dfx and Nvidia have also been involved in the Mac world for some time, in particular, 3DFX recently released Voodoo 4 and 5 for Apple computers.
