Intel is expected to announce a new series of low-cost Celeron processors later this week. Among the novelties, the changes to the architecture of the processors, usually used in consumer machines, which will be based on the new Pentium 4. The step means the coverage of the entire market segment with systems derived from the Pentium 4 processors that recently also landed in the world laptop. The expected speeds of the new Celeron processors should be 1.7 and 1.8 GHz; the bus will be 400 MHz with 128 Kb of second level cache and will be destined for entry level machines, under $ 900. At the moment the fastest of the Celerons arrive at "just" 1.3 GHz but have 256kb of second level cache which will reduce the speed advantage enjoyed by the new processors.
