Starting today, US users of the iTunes Store have a new section entitled Music Movies in which they offer videos of concerts, musical documentaries and musicals. In addition to Nirvana: Live At Reading, the showcase offers the director's cut of Woodstock, the musical film Purple Rain by Prince, West Side Story and many others. Among the novelties for now are bookable include the musical documentary The Might Get Loud centered on the legends of the guitar Jimmy Page, Jack White and the Edge available from December exclusively on the iTunes Store.
According to some rumors reported by Billboard Cupertino is trying to increase the sale of video content by leveraging music fans who already buy regularly through the iTunes Store. Apple would aim to enter into exclusive agreements to distribute films and music documentaries on iTunes before they are made available in traditional channels on DVD.
