The growth prospects of the LCD screen market are continuously creating new plants. Among those who plan to expand their facilities is LG.Philips, a joint venture created by the merger of LG and Philips. Yesterday the company announced its expansion plans for fifth generation assembly lines that guarantee greater productivity in terms of LCD substrates, the basis for flat screens. As reported by the Taiwanese Digitimes newspaper, as of May, thanks to the entry into operation of new lines, the output capacity will increase. Other increases are expected by the autumn. Then subsequent steps forward in terms of units will be made in the first and second quarters of next year. When fully operational, production should reach 120,000 LCD substrates per month for each of the two commercial realities, Philips and LG for a total of 240,000.
