The global health emergency has brought us face to face with the need to deal with the use of face masks and, consequently, with all problems caused to the unlocking systems through face recognition, such as those found on iPhones and iPads equipped with TrueDepth Camera e Face ID.
Apple seems to have found a system to speed up this procedure and plans to release it with iOS and iPadOS in version 13.5, according to what emerged from the beta distributed last night. The solution is quite simple: as soon as Face ID does not correctly detect the face, the possibility of unlocking the smartphone or tablet is immediately proposed by entering the numerical code. Previously this was shown only after 3 failed recognition attempts, which made the unlocking procedure quite long and annoying while wearing the mask.
Although it is possible configure an alternative appearance – in order to make it easier to recognize the user even if his face is partially covered -, this does not allow to register a face heavily masked, therefore it is an alternative that can only be valid provided that you wear very small protection. The new solution, on the other hand, is much more effective and immediate. Now we just have to wait for the release of the stable version of iOS and iPadOS 13.5 so that all users can take advantage of this feature.
