The growth of the laptop market and the glimmer of the recovery are giving a boost to PCs in Europe.
According to the survey company Gartner, in fact, during the quarter that ended at the end of December, sales grew by 6% compared to the same quarter of last year. Overall, during 2002, sales increased by 3% compared to 2001, a good sign which, however, cannot be considered conclusive.
According to Gartner, in fact, the computer market also in our continent may not be able to return to the double growth figure and this forever. "The European market – says Brian Gammage, an analyst at Gartner Dataquest – must now be seen as a market in which the replacement of old machines with new ones prevails"
Total sales in the quarter were 13.1 million units; during the year there were 41.1 million. Among the manufacturers those with the highest growth rate were Dell and Acer (+12.9 and + 28.9%). Despite a 12.7% drop in sales, HP remains in first place in sales with 17.3% of the market.
