Hurricane, HP already prepares a tablet with the Web OS? – Macitynet.it
The acquisition that HP made of Palm a few weeks ago was seen by many as a move to grab developers, technologies and know-how in the multitouch sector and challenge Apple, RIM and Android by creating new devices based on an interesting and mature operating system such as Palm's WebOS. A new rumor now appears to confirm HP's interest in creating a competing iPad device as well: the code name of the product would be "Hurricane" and the release would even be expected by the third quarter of this year.
Just three weeks ago, HP was still working on the Slate, the Windows 7-based tablet prematurely defined by many as the iPad killer. Instead, the idea was set aside by HP to work on WebOS-based projects. According to those who had the opportunity to try it, the Slate was "a very interesting but slow device like a turtle," said Paul Mueller, an analyst from Losa Angeles, specialized in the industrial sector. "I think they could have done something better with a faster processor, but that would have also meant shorter battery life." If the rumors about this new tablet are true, Mueller continues "a real WebOS-based killer device could arrive, an exceptional operating system for a tablet".
