In conjunction with the launch of HUAWEI P40, the company presented the new customization EMUI 10.1, the latest version of the proprietary graphical interface that enriches the user experience with new features and at the same time allows for greater independence from Google services thanks also to the very high number of Huawei and Honor branded devices on the market (over 400 million).
EMUI 10.1 goes a step further than the previous version and introduces new features like HUAWEI MeeTime and the Multi-screen Collaboration, which allows users to make the most of multiple devices simultaneously.
Other improvements can be seen in the user interface, with it scrolling which now reacts to user inputs with a new effect. Even moving objects now gradually slow down as they lose momentum due to friction, with scrolling animations slowing down before stopping more naturally.
The acceleration model developed on the basis of what happens in nature, ensuring that animations behave exactly as users expect. Many interface improvements such as scrolling inwards from both sides and waiting for the sidebar to come out, or the possibility of being able to drag apps into the sidebar on the screen to start Multi-Window.
Furthermore, images, text and files can be dragged from one app to another, with the Floating Window that allows you to perform basic activities such as responding to text messages without leaving full-screen mode, so that users can focus on multiple actions simultaneously, all within reach.
Among the most interesting news, the multi-device control panel, which provides a unified platform with which users can see all connected devices at a glance at a glance. Connecting one device to another becomes even simpler, with a simple touch on the corresponding button in the available menu by swiping up from both corners; the panel can also be used to switch IoT devices on or off, set the projection of the smartphone screen, start multi-screen collaboration and more.
The multi-device control panel also intelligently recommends nearby devices that can be used to enhance the user experience: for example, when a user listens to music on the HUAWEI Music app with a HUAWEI Sound X nearby, he will be advised to transfer the audio to the smart speaker for better quality.
Among the novelties of the new interface also MeeTime, video calling app, which supports Full HD video calling up to 1080p between Huawei devices. Through this new app, users can also share their screen during a call and simultaneously mark the screen to allow interaction between the devices themselves.
Thanks to Huawei's distributed technology, third-party cameras such as the Drift action camera can be connected wirelessly with a Huawei smartphone and be used as an external HUAWEI MeeTime camera, to add new experiences to video calls.
The multiscreen collaboration feature is also enriched with new features. EMUI 10.1 increases the possibility of exchange between different applications via PC or smartphone. After a quick configuration procedure of a single tap, users can make or receive video or audio calls via Huawei PCs. In addition, users will also be able to take advantage of native PC applications to directly open files or hyperlinks on the smartphone, so as to exploit the power of PC hardware and increase productivity.
Furthermore, EMUI 10.1 presents Celia, a new Huawei voice assistant, which can be activated by holding the power button for a second or saying "Hey Celia". The assistant supports object identification, multimedia playback control, text messages, translation, calorie scanning and much more. Celia currently speaks English, French and Spanish, and will be available in the UK, France, Spain, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. Other countries will join soon.
Last but not least, the update introduces a cross-device photo gallery, which aggregates in the gallery all the media saved on smartphones and tablets that mount EMUI 10.1, which are connected to the same Wi-Fi AP network and connected with the same HUAWEI ID.
EMUI 10.1 will be installed on over 30 Huawei smartphone models, including the HUAWEI series Mate 30, HUAWEI Mate X, the HUAWEI P30 series and many others. More information on planning for local updates or devices that mount EMUI 10.1 will be available on Huawei channels in the coming weeks.
