The growing amount of data and the increasingly significant application loads have led HP to create new deduplication solutions for the HP StoreOnce Backup family. Companies are increasingly at risk of compliance due to extensive backup and recovery windows, and must incur high management costs due to increasingly complex infrastructures.

New HP solutions can achieve record backup performance: up to 100 terabytes (TB) then is up to 40 TB then in data recovery on a single system.

What does the HP software mean in practice? StoreOnce Catalyst guarantees a significant reduction of recovery times, of the needs of capacity and of the costs associated with bandwidth. Higher productivity on the other hand accessible with HP software Data Protector 7, based on Autonomy Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) technology. For the first time, customers can accurately protect, find and retrieve information based on the meaning and concepts contained within the data. Efficiency of server and storage connectivity with HP Virtual Connect Direct-Attach Fiber Channel for HP 3PAR Storage, which eliminates the need for complex and multilevel storage area networks (SANs). Greater reliability and improved network-level performance, which supports the explosion of traffic and data storage, connected to the components of the converged infrastructure with HP Automated Network Management 9.2.

HP StoreOnce the first solution for federated deduplication; this means that the data is deduplicated only once using a single technology to be subsequently moved anywhere, without needing to be restored, or added again. Based on a technology developed by HP Labs, it also has the capacity to automatic restart which guarantees the completion of backup processes even in the event of a serious hardware failure, so as to reduce the risk of data loss.

Customers can use the software HP Data Protector 7, Symantec NetBackup or Symantec Backup Exec to manage data deduplication and movement within your HP StoreOnce Catalyst environment. Independent software vendors (ISVs – Independent Software Vendors) can achieve the same level of control with the HP StoreOnce Catalyst open software development kit.
