In a previous guide we showed how to install GameBoy emulator on iOS 10 and, more specifically, how to install GBA4iOS 2.1. This emulator for years the best available for iPhone and iPad and capable of playing games GameBoy Color is GameBoy Advance. The next step in installing this emulator is to transfer the games into it. Often not a very simple operation and for this reason I wanted to write this guide to help you transfer games to GBA4iOS in the simplest way possible. This way you can start playing your favorite games that have certainly marked your childhood.

How to transfer games to GBA4iOS

Before proceeding with the guide, it is advisable to specify that it is only possible to transfer inside the GBA4iOS the games of which you have the original cartridge. Guideitech not responsible for any improper use of this guide.

There are two methods that allow you to transfer games to GBA4iOS: the first uses the PC and iTunes to transfer the ROMs inside the emulator; the second one allows you to import games by downloading them directly from the iPhone or iPad browser.

Transfer games to GBA4iOS with iTunes from PC / Mac

If you have a Windows PC, the only pre-requisite is to download the latest version of iTunes from the official Apple site. On Mac instead iTunes already pre-installed and ready for use.

First you need to get the ROM of the game you want to transfer inside the gameGameBoy emulator for iOS. Since it is not easy to extract the game from the original cartridges, for this operation we will rely on a website that contains a wide range of games for GameBoy Advance and GameBoy Color. For this guide we will use the site Emuparadise.

  • From the browser of your PC or Mac access the Emuparadise site and search for the game you would like to transfer to your iOS device. When searching for the game, enter the word gba at the end of the name. This will only display GameBoy games. For example, in my case I searched for Pokemon gba.
  • From the search results select the game to download.
  • The game's summary page will open, below the menu Quick navigation select Download Links.

  • Automatically you will be sent to the section where the download links are. Under the heading Direct Download Links: select the name of the game, which is a link to the download page.

  • Scroll through the new page until you reach the section Direct Download: and click again on the name of the game to download. This time the ROM download will start.

  • At the end of the download you will end up with a file with extension .zip. Extract the contents of the archive. At the end you will have to get a file with the name of the game and extension .gba.

Game transfer to iPhone or iPad

  • Now connect your iOS device to the PC / Mac and start iTunes.
  • Wait for iTunes to recognize the iPhone or iPad and, if required, give all the permissions required by iTunes.
  • On iTunes, from the top bar, select the icon corresponding to the connected device.

  • From the left sidebar select the item App.
  • Now on the right, scroll down the page until you see a list of applications. Select GBA4iOS.
  • Drag the game file with extension .gba in the box to the right of the list of apps.

At this point you just have to wait for the transfer of the game. When iTunes has finished the process, you can disconnect the device from the PC and start GBA4iOS. The list of games will include the ROM you just transferred.

Transfer games to GBA4iOS directly from iOS

This second solution is much more practical, as it allows to transfer the games inside the GameBoy emulator directly from the iOS device. Here's how.

  • First open the browser Safari and access the Emuparadise website.
  • Search for the game you would like to transfer into GBA4iOS. When searching for the game, enter the word gba at the end of the name, this way only GameBoy games will be displayed. For example, in my case I searched for Pokemon gba.
  • From the search results select the game to download.
  • The game's summary page will open, below the menu Quick navigation select Download Links.

  • During the Download phase of the game you will not see any changes on your device and Safari will continue to show the previously opened web page as if it had not received the command. all normal. When the game has finished the download phase, a new window will appear automatically with a summary of the downloaded file.
  • Now select the button Open in and, from the list, select Copy to GBA4iOS.

  • L will be openedGameBoy GBA4iOS emulator and, in the list of games, there will be the ROM you just imported.

Conclusions

Transferring games within GBA4iOS is not a very simple operation. Once you have performed the procedure once following this guide, when you need to transfer a new game, everything will be much easier.
