In this article we see step by step how to configure a RAID disk on Mac OS X both in Striped mode and in Mirrored mode without the aid of any software or device!
Disk Utility, the default application on Mac OS X located in Applications / Utilities, a complete disk manager. Among the various functions it allows you to configure RAID systems in a few clicks.
There are three supported RAID modes, let's see them together:
- "Mirroring" or "Duplicate": allows data two disks to duplicate the data of each other. The function exclusively for data recovery, in fact if one of the disks is damaged the information is not lost as it is duplicated
- "Striped" It allows, given two or more disks, to create a single volume of the size given by the sum of all the disks inserted in the RAID system with excellent performance in terms of access speed (since information can be read simultaneously from each disk).
- "Chained"similar allostripedma offers greater stability at the expense of less speed in accessing data
HOW TO CREATE A RAID DISK:
observing the guide image below, select one of the disks that will be part of the RAID (left tab), then click on "RAID" (right tab), enter a name for the new disk, the volume format (Mac OS or FAT) and the type of raid (Mirroring to duplicate data and Striped to increase capacity) and finally click on create!
