For now few problems from MacSimpson
There aren't many Mac users infested with the MacSimpson worm that we reported on last Friday.
The first reports from overseas, where the virus that is transmitted via e-mail has manifested itself, do not mention particular problems or cases of high infestation. This is probably due to the fact that the worm must be explicitly invoked by the user who must launch the Script whose title "Simpson Episode". Without this operation, the worm is innocuous. Anyone who has received an email with the attach in question and a text that begins with "Hundreds of Simpson Episodes (…)" must in any case be careful. At the moment it does not seem that the virus causes serious devastation on the hard disk (it sends itself to the addresses of OutLook or Entourage, it copies itself into the "Start with" folder forcing the opening of Internet Explorer continuously, moves to the trash, from where then can be recovered, messages sent via e-mail), but a good precaution not to ignite the dusts to avoid possible and unknown worst effects. The Symantec site has details on MacSimpson and hopes to release soon an eradicator that eliminates the worm.
