With the arrival of iOS 8 for iPhone, iPod and iPad and OS X Yosemite for desktop and portable computers, Apple has introduced two extremely convenient and useful features:Handoff and AirDrop. It's just a shame that Handoff and AirDrop are not features supported by all Macs: only owners of a recent Mac can in fact take advantage of the features offered by Handoff and AirDrop.
If you have an old Mac that doesn't support Handoff and AirDrop, however, you must not despair. Thanks to a trick, in fact, you can enable and activate Handoff and AirDrop on all Macs, even older ones. And today we will go to see together how to enable Handoff and AirDrop on all Macs, even those that officially could not support Handoff and AirDrop.
How to enable Handoff and AirDrop on all Macs, even older and unsupported ones
As we said, with a little trick we will go around the limits imposed by Apple and we will enable Handoff and AirDrop on all Macs, even those that in theory would not be supported by Apple. The procedure to follow is not too complicated, but it will take a few minutes of your time.
The guide has been tested, but do everything at your own risk, taking responsibility for what you do. That said, let's not waste any more time and let's go immediately to see how to activate Handoff and AirDrop on any Mac, even the older ones.
The tool we will use to add our purpose is called Continuity Activation Tool and a very useful tool that will allow you to use Handoff and AirDrop on any Mac, even those that Apple has inexplicably excluded from the support of this technology.
FOREWORD: before doing anything, make a full backup of your Mac. In case of problems, you can restore easily. Furthermore, I would like to point out that this procedure disables some of your Mac's security protocols, so do everything at your own risk, as mentioned above.
How to activate Continuity Features on any Mac
First of all, download the Continuity Activation Toolda tool HERE and start it.
The Mac will probably block the start of the program due to the security settings: go to the Security and Privacy Preferences of the Mac and enable the start of the tool activating the possibility to also start applications and programs not downloaded from the Mac App Store.
Now the program will start, open the Terminal and ask you for the Mac password. Enter it and press Enter.
Now I will ask you what to do, offering you 3 options. Select the 1.
After a moment the Terminal will show an error (see below) and ask to restart. Before restarting the Mac, you need to disable iCloud on Mac and iOS in order to proceed with the guide and get around the error: do not worry, you will not lose your data, then you can reactivate everything.
After the restart, start the Continuity Activation Tool program again and you will be able to do the same thing as before, this time without errors. When prompted, restart your Mac again.
Now you can log back into iCloud on both Mac and iOS.
Now in the Mac go to Preferences> General and you will see a new option that will allow you to enable Handoff and AirDrop on any Mac. Activate it.
Similarly, on iOS go to Settings> General to activate Handoff.
Now, to use Handoff, you just need to use one of the supported apps on Mac and iOS to be able to continue working from one device to another, synchronizing data and information without problems (e.g. Safari, Numbers, Messages and others).
In the same way you can also use AirDrop, which will finally work perfectly on both Mac and iOS. You only need to activate this function on both Mac and iOS to be able to easily exchange any type of file from Mac to iOS and vice versa.
Well, I'd say everything. We concluded with ours guide that explains how to activate Handoff and AirDrop on any Mac, even the old ones and those not supported by Apple. For doubts, questions or problems use the comments.
