Yesterday evening, together with the new iPad, iMac and Mac Mini, Tim Cooke Craig Federighi provided new details regarding the next release of the Apple iOS 8.1 mobile operating system for iPhone, iPod and iPad.
In particular, Federighi has repeatedly stressed how the Cupertino engineers have treasured the feedback from their users regarding iOS 8 and, among the many new features, the Camera Roll has finally been included again within the Photos app. With iOS 8.1, therefore, the Camera Roll returns to the Photos app of iPhone, iPad and iPod, a function that is loudly requested by users.
Inside the Photos app you can now see the images in the original resolution, and in the Recently added section all the photos are displayed and not just those taken in the last month.
Among the news of iOS 8.1 we find the activation of the Apple Pay payment service, although for now limited to American soil only. Unfortunately we do not know when to land in Europe, but I am confident that it will be done soon. Mastercard and Visa have already issued press releases in this regard.
Among other news, with the operating system update it will also be possible to save on the iCloud Photo Library (in public beta version) up to 5GB of video and photo files for free, while to have more space available you will need to pay an additional amount: 0.99 dollars per month for 20GB and 3.99 dollars per month for 200GB. In case of need, storage up to 1TB is provided at a price to be defined according to the space required.
iOS 8.1 and Apple Pay will be released on Monday 20 October.
The update to iOS 8.1 will be available from next Monday for all owners of an iPhone or iPad updated or upgradeable to iOS 8.
