Do not do it at home: saw the iMac pedestal if it does not fit into the suitcase
What to do if you want to carry the 27 ″ iMac around but the pedestal prevents you from putting it in your suitcase? The pedestal is cut: what a friend of Kirill Zakharov's father, head of design of the Unsplash website, thought to do to travel with his iMac. A metal saw and the game is over. On his return he restored the Mac by reattaching the pedestal to the least worst with bolts.
The man who used the hacksaw for metals to cut the pedestal does not know but the foot of many iMacs can be removed simply with the help of a credit card or similar and a screwdriver (here is a video showing how does). From the back of some iMacs you can see a plate behind the pedestal; with the help of a credit card or similar it is possible to make the section of the pedestal come out with the torx screws that hold the pedestal in place; the screws can be unscrewed and the pedestal removed without problems.
My friends dad had to bring an iMac abroad. Unfortunately, it didnt fit in his carry-on. I know he had to improvise. pic.twitter.com/x5LdQc407s

Apple has long been selling 21.5 ″ and sa 27 ″ iMacs without a stand, with an integrated VESA mount adapter. The iMacs without pedestal are designed to be mounted on all supports compliant with the VESA standard: wall or table brackets and articulated arms.

Footless iMacs do not have a stand: they must be mounted on a special stand or dedicated desks).
