All in one box
It is therefore called Alpaca, and will allow the management of e-mails, appointments, addresses, the new component that will make its debut in the next Office 2001 by Microsoft. The code name and the main features of what, at the moment, appears to be the more relevant news of the new release of Microsoft's office suite, were revealed today by the Redmond company in a statement, with some interviews with American media and with previews on its Web site. Alpaca, in fact, integrates itself features of Outlook (not Outlook Express) already seen on Windows, a sort of electronic diary capable of interacting with Office applications by adding the main features of Outlook Express, the e-mail client already available for Mac today. "Outook Express – they tell Microsoft – it will continue to be used by those who do not use Office. Who, instead, acquister Office certainly Alpaca privileger that makes available all the functions of an e-mail client but also benefits from many of those of Office ". Not only, in fact, it will be possible to use the spelling and grammar correction modules inside of the mail program, but it will also be possible to link documents to particular messages, group the same messages or addresses around a document and access from each Office program and from every office document to the e-mail functions. In addition to there Alpaca will be closely connected to a personal electronic diary containing a calendar of appointments and an address book (complete with personal details of the person and field for photography). Finally the agenda will be easily synchronized with Palm. "Since we released the first Mac version – says Apple's product manager Erik Kwong – many things have changed. Then the vast majority of the acquired were made by society. Today, instead, they come from individual users who purchase the package for personal use and for small businesses. This is why the new Office will be designed precisely to satisfy this new user ". At Microsoft, they strongly emphasize that Alpaca, which does not yet have an official and definitive name, is not the only innovation in Office. Others will be the novelties and will be gradually revealed. According to some press sources at the moment the Redmond company is still late in defining the definitive features of Office that is not yet available even in beta and this would be the reason behind the difficulty with which they are release more precise information on the rest of the components. At Microsoft they are not specific even on the release date set generically within the second half of the year. In many, including Macity, they assumed that a favorable date could be the next MacWorld Expo, coinciding with the presentation of MacOs X. indiscretion is not denied by the developers that to exclude that Office can be available immediately for MacOs X. "A version for the new OS will be – they say to Microsoft – but not immediately. First we will focus on versions for MacOs 8 and 9, which will then be the universal standard for Mac users ". It seems instead that right from the start, in July, we could see IE and Oulook Express in a" carbonized "version. "Our goal – Kwong said – distribute them with the MacOs X CD".
