A competitor for Rendezvous? – Macitynet.it
First signs of competition for Apple's Rendezvous?
Hewlett-Packard has introduced software that allows wireless devices to print on printers connected to corporate networks.
The technology called "mobile printing", developed in collaboration with other brands such as the mobile phone manufacturer SonyEricsson, and also includes a software layer for the server, which takes care of collecting the print queues and directing them to the correct printer.
The part of software to be installed on the handhelds will be made available via free download in December, while that server will have an annual cost for a single user ($ 35 a year for users up to 100 users).
Initially the client software will run on BlackBerry RIM devices and Pocket PC 2002, but HP is working on a solution for Palm.
Obviously SonyEricsson plans to include the software in its own call phones, but has not yet declared the time for marketing. (By Marco Centofanti)
