Starting today, iPhone, touch and iPad users can download i-MiBAC – Top 40 a free app released by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (the first Italian ministry to land on the iPhone) which presents the 40 most visited museums and archaeological areas 'Italy.
The application that transforms, as the slogan that accompanies its launch says, smartphones into smARTphones, a precious tool for enthusiasts, tourists and even for simple curious people. The excellence of the Italian cultural heritage described through a card with general access information and a rich gallery of images. The app offers a map of all the museums and monuments reported with the related cultural routes: thanks to the implementation of the GPS, the app detects the user's position and is able to report the places of culture in the vicinity
General information on access, contacts, website, opening hours, information on entrance tickets and guided tours are available for all museums and monuments. Also available short historical-critical factsheets on museum collections and archaeological excavations and a selection of images of the most representative works viewable in detail. This is thanks to a rich iconographic system curated by the Central Institute for Catalog and Documentation and by the major Italian photographic archives: Scala and Alinari Archives.
i-MiBAC also offers the possibility of sharing information on museums and monuments via Facebook and the possibility of saving your favorite places of culture as boookmarks. The other functions offered are numerous and interesting: the thematic itineraries reported by the editorial staff of Cultura Italia, the morphing of restorations and / or mutations over time of a selection of works of art.
We still remember the Top Secret section with videos and a photo gallery of the places less accessible to the public, near the Top 40, the audio section with contextualized music compared to the selection of the works, the news section with events, programs and news directly from the MiBAC website. Finally, with the Tickets section, the user has the option to book and buy the ticket for MiBAC sites directly from their phone, up to 24 hours before entry. Once the purchase has been made, the user receives a bar code via email that allows you to enter directly, avoiding the queues. It is an absolute novelty in the world of cultural heritage. The system, created in collaboration with Pierreci-Codess, will be immediately in operation for the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill and will soon be extended to other Italian cultural sites.
i-MiBAC can be downloaded free of charge from this web page.
