Layoffs to PortalPlayer

There is an air of crisis in PortalPlayer.

The company, known to the Mac world because it produces the processors in use in the iPod, has in fact announced that it has provided for a cut of personnel last month.

The number of layoffs was not disclosed.

Vice President of the company Michael Maia minimized the scope of the event, underlining how it was an operation "aimed at bringing expenses into line with profits". Portal Player has also announced the departure of CEO John Mallard in the past few weeks, who has yet to find a replacement.

PortalPlayer, meanwhile, hopes to achieve a balanced budget by the end of the year, probably in the third fiscal quarter.

Among the customers of the company, which specializes in processors dedicated to the world of digital audio, there are also Samsung and RCA.
