Yahoo and Nokia have announced an alliance with which they will offer users a range of online services in the field of email, instant messaging, maps and navigation services from both computers and mobile devices.
Nokia will be Yahoo's exclusive provider of navigation and maps services by integrating its Ovi Maps into Yahoo's products and services which will be offered under the ?powered by Ovi? brand. Yahoo will be the exclusive provider of Nokia's Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat services which will be offered under the ?Ovi Mail / Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo!? brand.
The two companies plan to collaborate in the union of the IDs between their respective services, which will begin by facilitating the use of Ovi's IDs in selected Yahoo! products. to make it easier for users to access online content and services.
The availability of specific offers of joint brand services is expected from the second half of 2010, while global availability is expected in 2011.
The agreement between Nokia and Yahoo arises from evident difficulties of both companies in their respective sectors: the Finnish giant is having to fight on the ground of smartphones, a market that is increasingly getting out of hand; Yahoo, on the other hand forced to chase Google over Android and mobile services.
