Apple Pay arrives in Europe

Apple Pay will arrive in Europe at least initially only in the UK during the month of July on the nearly 250 thousand devices installed in the country such as public transport with which it will be possible to pay for the ticket, the major national stores with which to pay for the goods simply by bringing the iPhone closer to the supported terminal.

So Apple Pay is starting to make its way into Europe and many UK retailers are already using large-scale contactless payment besides the major chains, others are also collaborating with Apple such as HSBC, Santander, Natwest, Nationwide, First Direct to be ready for launch in Gran Brittany in July but Trader Joes, Baskin Robbins and JCPenney should join in the coming months. Apple Pay will support the connection with bank accounts, shops and of course all payment systems such as credit cards and more. Here is Apple's official announcement:

Apple today announced that Apple Pay will further improve payments by adding support for loyalty programs and credit and debit cards issued by stores in iOS 9. Apple Pay will also offer users even more ways to pay for purchases in the United States, expanding the number of retailers joining over a million stores next month and adding support for Discover in the fall. Apple Pay will accept credit and debit cards from all major circuits and issued by the most popular banks, which represent 98% of the volume of purchases by credit card in the USA.

Apple Pay has kicked off a new era of payments, and our users appreciate this incredibly easy, safe and private way of paying, said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. We will offer our customers the most requested functions, with support for loyalty programs and cards issued by stores, and expanding the methods and stores in which payments through Apple Pay are accepted, which will truly transform the way people pay their purchases.

With the addition of Apple Pay, the Passbook app in iOS has become much more than just a place to keep coupons, gift cards, tickets and boarding passes. Starting this fall, with iOS 9, Passbook will transform into Wallet and offer new payment options with Apple Pay support for loyalty programs and credit and debit cards issued by stores.

To make the most of purchases, users only need to add loyalty cards and payment cards issued by participating stores in the Wallet app, and they can easily use them when they pay with Apple Pay. This fall, more than 80 million active members of the Walgreens Balance Rewards program, the largest pharmaceutical loyalty program in the US, will be able to use their loyalty points easily and securely with Apple Pay. In addition, Kohls Department Stores will begin distributing Apple Pay to its 30 million participants in the Yes2You Reward program. Other companies that will offer users the opportunity to take advantage of loyalty programs with Apple Pay include Coca-Cola, Dunkin Donuts, Panera Bread and Wegmans Food Markets. The cards issued by the stores and available to Apple Pay users will include BJs Wholesale Club, Kohls Department Stores and JCPenney, and many more will follow.

Our customers in the United States rely on Dunkin Donuts to find the right charge to start every day at any time of the day, said Nigel Travis, President and CEO of Dunkin Brands. We could not have imagined a better way to reward their loyalty than to offer the possibility of using Apple Pay and the points accumulated for their purchases.

Offering our customers innovative payment methods and maximum flexibility is part of our commitment to ensuring a simple and convenient customer experience, said Kevin Mansell, President, CEO and CEO of Kohl. Thanks to the integration of Apple Pay in all our stores, Kohls customers can choose how to pay, using Kohls Charge or their Yes2You Rewards points, and payments are easy and safe.
