The unix roots of MacOs X continue to be discussed; a recent article on Computer User highlights how linux is increasingly credible as a server system, but you struggle on the desktop side, and in this sector a new opponent has recently arrived: the Macintosh. According to the article, MacOs X has a solid and coherent graphical interface that simplifies life for new users, easy support for cameras, digital camcorders and wirless networks, the availability of many desktop software (including MS Office), nice-to-see hardware, but especially for what concerns the unix- fan, it includes a powerful ecomplete shell. For all these reasons, the article continues, Apple says that on desktop computers, BSD is now 3 times more popular than linux.
