Zoom has updated its app for iOS removing the sending of usage statistics to Facebook, after the practice had been discovered by Motherboard just a few days ago. The CEO of the company Eric S. Yuan has published a post on his official blog explaining his version of the facts: the sending of data is caused by the "log in with Facebook" function.
The company therefore decided to remove the Facebook SDK, but not the function: now you have to go through the web browser, but at least you avoid sharing unnecessary information – which, however, is anonymous and mostly concerns the device, not the user and / or its contents. For example, we talk about device model, screen size, time zone, how many cores the main processor has, available storage space, operating system language, operator and IP address.
Zoom also said it will review its implementation procedure for new features to make sure that no such incidents will occur in the future. The Zoom update is already available on the App Store.
