On the horizon there are HD more and more capacious and smaller. To announce a progressive miniaturization of large hard disks an announcement today by Toshiba. The Japanese company, specializing in 2.5-inch HD, has in fact made it known that it has introduced 48.8 GB plates per square inch, which means 30 GB per platter for 2.5-inch discs, or 60 GB for a standard HD, with two platters. The new Toshiba disc has a rotation speed of 4,200 rpm, a speed transfer rate of 100 Mbps and a seek time of 12 milliseconds. The measures are 7 cm wide by 10 cm long; 9.5 millimeters thick and weighing 99 grams, Toshiba has also made it known with a press release that the next milestone will be disks with a density of 52 Giga per square inch which will become 100 GB by the end of 2003.
