Google Podcasts iOS: the Google app now also available on iPhone and iPad

Google Podcasts, the application that has long been available on Android, has also been officially launched on the App Store, available today also for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. A move that will help the Mountain View multinational to carve out its space in the increasingly competitive podcasting market, elbowing competitors like Apple, Spreaker, Overcast and Spotify.

The launch of Google Podcasts on iOS coincides with a redesign of the design of the app, also updated for Android users. The new design adds several features focused on a new three-card interface. The main screen now focused on the podcasts to which the subscriber user, with a scrolling feed dedicated to the new episodes, quick download links, the playback tab and the queue waiting.

The podcast search and recommendation features have been included in a new tab called "Explore", while a third "Activity" feed allows you to view and manage the current play queue, listening history, downloads and subscriptions. There is also a function that allows you to automatically download new episodes of the podcasts when they are released, in addition to support for notifications on the availability of new episodes, fundamental features that other apps have been offering for years.

Particularly interesting seems to be the new "For You" tab on the Explore tab, which should be able to suggest new podcasts or new episodes based on what the user is used to listening through a special algorithm. The update does not just involve apps for Android and iOS: Google is also renewing the web version of Google Podcasts (to date quite poor), introducing support for subscriptions and allowing users to synchronize listening progress on all devices, as it happens on other services.

Google Podcast is free to download for iOS on the App Store and for Android on the Play Store, while the link to visit the section on the web this.
