Real Tennis 2009: the "real" tennis for iPhone and touch – logomacitynet1200wide 1

Like the other Gameloft titles reviewed by Macitynet, Real Tennis 2009 also offers an impeccable technical realization and graphic quality. The game scene always in 3D, both in full action and in the intermezzo scenes for changing the pitch and pauses. The realistic effect of the field is also rendered with successful audio effects such as audience noise, applause and exclamations in chorus, as well as by the animations of the players, fluid and above all convincing. Real Tennis 2009 offers three different game modes: quick match useful to stretch our fingers and fool an unexpected break, or the tournament and championship modes that require a more consistent time commitment. For players who are serious in the championship section, it is necessary to face opponents and win games to climb the world rankings, starting from a novice up to conquering the number one position. In addition to the game modes described, the longevity of the title is also ensured by the possibility of playing via Wi-Fi against friends.

As for the controls, Real Tennis 2009 offers the best you can ask for from a device without keys such as iPhone and touch: a virtual joypad in the lower left corner and a button for touching the ball on the right. In our opinion, the controls are well implemented, nevertheless they require a good dose of practice. At the beginning even the most experienced players could struggle to throw the ball over the net: the advice in the first games is to limit ourselves to using the shooting button, without pretending to immediately make special effects and shots. After having become familiar with the main commands and with the times for batting and response, it is easier to concentrate on special and targeted shots. The absence of the physical buttons, however, could annoy more than one player, for example when it is necessary to switch from controlling the shot of the ball to the movement of the player, this too can be overcome with a little exercise.

The initial practice period and the remarkable depth of Real Tennis 2009 allow us to classify this title not so much in arcade and action games as in sports simulations. For this reason, players looking for an immediate title and requiring little or no effort to practice should carefully evaluate the purchase. In all other cases Real Tennis 2009 a title to be bought with your eyes closed: this applies both to fans of sports games and to the most demanding players looking for an exciting challenge.
