Apple presents Apple Remote Desktop: the official press release

Apple introduced Apple Remote Desktop for Mac OS X, a software that will allow users, teachers and administrators to remotely manage the Desks of other Macs connected to LANs, AirPort wireless networks or the Internet. With Apple Remote Desktop, teachers can view students' computer monitors, perform group demonstrations and communicate with individual interlocutors thanks to real-time screen sharing, text chats and the "call attention" command. System administrators can provide assistance, obtain complete system profiles, reconfigure settings and distribute applications, promptly and easily, to hundreds of computers. All from a single central location, via an Ethernet connection or an AirPort wireless network.

"Apple Remote Desktop is the fastest and most immediate way to provide support for Mac users in classrooms or remote workgroups," said Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing. "It has many powerful features just think of screen sharing, system monitoring and software installation on AirPort networks or via the Internet and for this an indispensable tool for teachers and system administrators working with the X system."How does it workApple Remote Desktop supports various levels of administrative access, each with its own password, so that teaching staff and IT managers are free to intervene in maximum security and at the same time limiting the privileges to delete the elements of the system or to modify their settings. In addition, teachers and administrators also have the option to control computers remotely, blocking screens and determining the start, restart and stop of individual workstations or entire computer labs or work groups.
