At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Acer showed Air Monitor, a device designed to monitor internal air quality. The Acer Air Monitor comes with an elegant and simple design; allows you to perform real-time measurements of key air quality factors, elements that can be read by smartphone apps and interpreting the status of some LEDs on the chassis.

You can take advantage of home automation functions based on air quality or call air purifiers thanks to the integration with IFTTT (a web service that allows you to create simple command sequences, called "recipes", activated by other web services such as Gmail, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest).

The manufacturer talks about the creation of devices for the IoB (Internet of Beings) and IoT functionality based on intelligence. Wayne Ma, General Manager responsible for IoB and Acer Cloud Technology, explained that in Europe and the USA, users spend on average 90% inside homes, at home or at work, highlighting how devices of this type can improve the conditions of life in general; the World Health Organization says that 4.3 million people die each year from problems related to pollution of the domestic atmosphere.

By taking advantage of various sensors, the Acer Air Monitor can take into account six factors related to air quality, including TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds, volatile organic compounds), carbon dioxide, dust and particles such as PM2.5, PM10, temperature and humidity. It is possible to access data processed in real time from a dedicated app for martphones from anywhere in the world via the Internet, send notifications via push notifications when some indicators exceed the predefined threshold levels. As mentioned, it is also possible to exploit IFTTT allowing the user to activate particular mechanisms when the air quality changes.

The device can be placed in the home or office; a circular LED strip allows you to understand the air quality through colors; an integrated sensor automatically deactivates the LEDs when the ambient light dimmed to a certain level so as not to distract the user during the night.

The Acer Air Monitor will be available in the second quarter of the year. The final specifications, price and actual availability have not been indicated. We should know more in a few months.
