Thanks to Intel 1.7 GHz laptops – logomacitynet1200wide 1

Intel today unveiled the first portable version of its Pentium 4 processor. The chip, called "M", Mobile, has speeds between 1.6 and 1.7 GHz and brings the bus speed from 133 to 400 MHz. A leap forward that, also supported by the DD SDRAM it should lead to a 49% increase in performance compared to the 1.2 GHz Pentium III-M. At the moment, the greatest attention of consumers and industry observers are turning to consumption of the Pentium 4-M. Intel claims that battery life, thanks to some technical innovations, will not be very different from that of previous chips, a figure that will have to be verified in the field. Among the manufacturers who have already announced laptops with the new Compaq Computer chip, Dell Computers, Hewlett-Packard and Toshiba. Most of these will be high-end products, with prices around $ 2,500, 15-inch screens, 40 or 60 GB disks and among the most advanced graphics cards. AMD should, however, soon introduce a new version of its Athlon for laptops. It will be the Athlon XP 1500+ with a speed of 1.3 GHz; the gap in terms of MHz will not result, according to AMD, in much lower performance as its speed comparable to that of a 1.5 GHz Pentium 4
