With MacBook Air 2020 now MacBook Pro 13 ″ makes less sense

Already put a little in check by MacBook Pro 16 ″ (here the review of macitynet), now the current one MacBook Pro 13 ″ also attacked in its target market since MacBook Air 2020.

The user now has to choose two configurations:

  • MacBook Air 2020 with 1.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz), Intel Iris Plus Graphics, 8GB of 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory, 512GB SSD storage, Touch ID,, Magic Keyboard, two Thunderbolt 3 ports a 1,529 euros on the online Apple Store.

  • MacBook Pro 13 ″ with 1.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz), Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645, 8GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory, 128GB SSD storage, Retina display with True Tone Touch Bar and Touch ID and two Thunderbolt 3 ports a 1,549 euros on the online Apple Store

Apple presents the new MacBook Air with doubled performance and Magic Keyboard

Compared to the MacBook Air, the 13 ″ MacBook Pro has a display that boasts 500 nit brightness (400 nit on the Air) and the P3 color range (sRGB on the Air) and the Touch Bar with integrated Touch ID sensor (the Air has only the Touch ID Sensor). The new MacBook Air 2020 also has advantages over the current 13-inch MacBook Pro: it weighs less (1.29 kg versus 1.37 kg) and offers better autonomy (up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing compared to 10 hours) of the Pro).

We now await the first benchmarks and comparisons to understand the potential of the Air which in any case now boasts a tenth generation quad-core processor and should integrate better mechanisms for heat dissipation, as already seen on the 16 ″ MacBook Pro.

The biggest limitation of the 13-inch MacBook Pro is Apple's offer that still offers machines in the initial configuration with 128GB SSD units, insufficient quantity for any type of use, especially in a professional laptop. Competitors in the Windows PC world have long offered, for the same price, laptops with significantly larger SSD drives.

Another limitation of the 13 ″ MacBook Pro complained by many users of the butterfly mechanism keyboard, an element that forced Apple to activate a specific assistance program for the numerous cases of locked or unresponsive keys. Ultimately, as proposed now, MacBook Pro 13 "makes little sense and Apple must urgently update it: in our opinion, the purchase is currently not recommended. The arrival of a MacBook Pro 14 ″ has been rumored for some time: we are also confident for this laptop with the arrival of 10th generation Intel Core processors, the new keyboard with scissor mechanism and a larger SSD storage unit.
