The New Yorker: the latest cover designed with iPhone – logomacitynet1200wide 1

A new miracle made possible by the iPhone, by its revolutionary user interface and by the incredible success of the App Store and all the applications that populate it. The artist Jorge Colombo remained practically motionless for about an hour in Times Square, right in front of the entrance of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum: the only noticeable movements were different operations performed with the fingers directly on the screen of his iPhone. While passersby interpreted Colombo's gestures as a traditional control of the Mail, the consultation of a map or browsing the Web, the artist created a quality illustration, curated enough to earn his place as the cover of the latest edition of the weekly The New Yorker.

Colombo has been drawing since he was 7 years old and has published his illustrations in The New Yorker since 1994: in an interview in which he talks about his discovery of digital drawing, he explains the advantages of creating illustrations with iPhone. "I have had a phone since early February and I immediately got a program that kept me busy," says Colombo. With iPhone it can also draw in the dark, while some problems emerge when the sun hits the screen directly due to reflections. In any case, judging by the quality and results obtained, Colombo seems to have fully appreciated the practicality of the iPhone as a work tool.

To create the cover of The New Yorker, Colombo used the Brushes program also available in our local App Store at a price of 3.99 euros. Thanks to the free Brushes Viewer viewer, it is possible to observe the various passages made by Colombo, starting from the first sketches on the digital canvas of the iPhone up to the finishing touches that gave life to the illustration.
