marzo 19, 2020

The rich film archive of the Cineteca di Milano accessible to the public available online. It is an important part of the catalog of the Morando video library in Milan, which offers over 5,000 units of Blu-ray and DVD films at the library of the same name.

The titles marked with the label "In Videoteca" cannot be consulted in streaming, but can be booked to be viewed at the Morando Library, since reopening will be possible. For now, as for all other institutes and institutions of culture, the temporary closure for the containment of Coronavirus has been ordered by the Government.

The videos are not the most common ones that can be found on normal streaming TV platforms, but real film treasures: documentaries, classics, vintage short films that otherwise would not be possible to recognize.

Among the classics of Italian literature I Promessi Sposi were made available, in the cinematographic transposition of Mario Bonnard in 1922, including the censorship cuts of the final edition, unpublished documents completely absent from any copy of the film available.

Among these, Max's adventures (French film of the early twentieth century), Guilt and repentance (Cines, 1906), Battle of Snowballs (Italo Pacchioni, 1896), Funeral of Giuseppe Verdi (Italo Pacchioni, 1901).

You can find out how the Cineteca di Milano was born directly from the words of its founder Luigi Comencini in the short film The museum of dreams, in which the master reconstructs the mission of recovery, conservation and safeguarding of the films that were destined for pulping.
