Apple has signed an agreement with the National Federation of the Blind, the main one in the United States and with the Prosecutor General of Mass, committing to make the iTunes platform increasingly accessible and usable even for the blind.

In addition to the improvements already introduced in iTunes 8 and in the new iPod nano and Classic series, we recall that a synthesized voice pronounces the position within the menus, the new agreement made known at the end of last week will first of all bring improvements for the usability of iTunes U. This is the section of the iTunes Store dedicated to the contents made available by the universities: this section, according to the terms of the agreement, will be completely accessible even for the blind by December 31 of this year.

Subsequently, by June 30, 2009, the iTunes program and the various sections of the iTunes Store online store will be made completely accessible and usable even for the blind on both Mac and Windows. Cupertino's commitment to the cause of the blind will also continue in the next 3 years: Apple will collaborate with the Prosecutor General of Massachussets and with the national association of the blind to ensure that the iTunes platform remains accessible and to resolve any problems in this sense. Finally, Apple contributed a sum of 250 thousand dollars assigned to the Mass Commission for the Blind to support the association in providing technologies and tools for the blind living in the geographic area concerned.
