In these days of alert, with interventions to support the forbidden areas – both incoming and outgoing – as a precautionary measure from COVID-19, digital also plays its part: the community of Waze users has already mobilized for the coronavirus alarm in Northern Italy.
In fact, the intervention of the Italian community of Waze was timely, which voluntarily activated itself to update the road map in the affected areas in real time with the aim of providing both an overview of the situation of the updated viability for citizens in transit in the areas adjacent to those blocked. and to avoid any inconvenience for the means authorized for the daily supply of the inhabitants of the areas placed in isolation.
The measures were implemented for the areas relating to the most significant outbreaks in Lombardy and Veneto involving about fifty thousand people residing in eleven municipalities: Vo Euganeo, Codogno, Castiglione d'Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano.
For these municipalities, the Italian community of Waze promptly engaged in the immediate closure of the roads leading to these eleven areas. In fact, the technical intervention on the map, by the Map Editors, guarantees the smoothness and redirection of traffic, greater supervision and control of the area and consequent increase in the level of safety for all citizens and these are spontaneous interventions and the proactivity of the members of the community to make Waze much more than a navigation app.
From the Waze Live Map check, the reports relating to closed roads entered in the last hours by the Map Editors for the coronavirus emergency in Northern Italy are visible in real time. The free Waze navigation app, currently active in 185 countries, available in 54 languages ??and with a community of over 130 million users.
