iTunes returns to China but without the pro Tibet album
Only a few hours ago the American iTunes site returned to being accessible for Chinese web surfers. Recall that there is no localized version for China of the Apple online store: last week the Chinese government had blocked access to the American store for all Chinese surfers. Even in the absence of an official communication from the country's authorities, the total blockade that lasted several days was associated with the appearance of the album Songs for Tibet, a compilation made with the participation of international stars in favor of the Tibetan cause. Macity talked about it in this article.
The iTunes USA store has been available again for a few hours but the page dedicated to the pro-Tibet compilation remains absent. The only official communication on the incident was an article published on the China.org.cn website managed by the country's government's Internet Information Center: "Songs for Tibet has raised great indignation among Chinese web users. Some users have said they will boycott Apple products, including the popular iPhone, which until now is not available in China. "
At this point, even if there are no official communications on the reasons for the unavailability of iTunes, it is difficult to think that there are other reasons other than those related to the pro Tibet album. On the other hand, about forty American athletes, says the Art of Peace Foundation that carried out the project, had downloaded the album right on Chinese territory during the Olympics "in support of the initiative".
