Best Buy first independent iPhone retailer in the USA
After the Apple Stores and the AT&T stores that sell iPhones since the first EDGE version, starting from September 7th in the United States it will be possible to buy the Apple 3G smartphone also in one of the Best Buy stores scattered throughout the USA. Best Buy has 970 stores and 16 smaller Best Buy Mobile stores: the impressive Minneapolis-based chain thus becomes the first and for now the only independent iPhone retailer for the US market.
The news was revealed by an Associated Press release from which it is learned that the negotiation lasted about 18 months. Shawn Score, president of Best Buy Mobile said that "We had to work hard to get to a position where Apple and AT&T were available for commercialization by Best Buy: that's what we've been doing for the past 18 months." According to Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris, it was possible to reach an agreement on the iPhone thanks to the long existing relationship with Best Buy for the marketing of Macs and iPods, already available for years at the Best Buy stores.
Recall that Best Buy a joint venture of Carphone Warehouse a chain that in the UK has been selling iPhones since the EDGE version and now the 3G model together with the mobile operator O2. Best Buy has just completed a strengthening operation for its presence in the mobile sector with the Best Buy Mobile brand which now holds 3.6% of the US telephone market, equipping the points of sale with terminals and staff for activating the phones mobile phones.
