iTunes dominates US music sales
CD sales continue to decline and iTunes maintains and consolidates its dominant position in digital music sales. We pay attention: the Apple online store not only dominates the sales of online shops but even surpasses traditional stores, including the famous and widespread Wall Mart chain. Apple's digital overtaking compared to traditional CDs was first announced in April.
The current picture sees the supremacy of iTunes for the sale of music in the United States for the first six months of 2008. The ranking is as follows: iTunes, Wall Mart, Best Buy, Amazon and Target. This is what emerges from the latest data communicated by The NPD Group then taken from numerous websites, including iLounge. The ranking compiled by The NPD Group takes into account both CD sales and the sales of individual tracks in digital format. Every 12 digital songs sold the sale of a traditional CD is counted.
