RealPlayer on PSX 2 – Macitynet.it
Less and less console, more and more a hybrid between an "essential" PC and a digital entertainment machine in a broad sense. The transformation of the PlayStation 2 continues and cuts a new milestone today with the announcement by Sony and RealNetworks of an agreement under which the new generation PSX will integrate the Real Player making it able to download music and movies from the Internet beyond that of being used as a radio with straming music. The partnership, in addition to providing a new marketing tool to Sony, also represents a joint effort between Sony itself and RealNetworks to counter Microsoft's excessive power. The Redmond company in fact undermines the market shares of both companies thanks to the next launch of the X-BOX console (which thanks to Windows will be able to offer immediately many features that the PSX can only give in future) and the opposite competition on the streaming front with Windows Media Player.RealPlayer will arrive on PSX only from the autumn when in the USA it will be possible to have an additional HD with the PlayStation 2. In recent days Sony had announced an agreement also with America On Line. The collaboration between AOL and Sony will allow American PSX owners to play online and use Internet services such as chat, email and instant messages.
