iPad Pro, new models in March and 5G in September

By Giacomo Martiradonna Friday 14 February 2020

Update coming soon for the iPad Pro line; starting from March, the new more performing and 3D camera models should arrive; for 5G, however, it will be necessary to wait for September. Coronavirus permitting.

If everything goes as expected – and not in the least guaranteed, given the times – Apple will update iPad Pro in two stages: first of all the new models will arrive with the new A14X processor, 3-lens camera and 4G connectivity; then, after summer, the flagship versions with 5G will be launched. Here's what's cooking in Cupertino.

Apple is working on the new iPad Pro coming in the coming months. They will also be supported by a keyboard with scissor mechanism and backlighting.

Instead of a single major update, 2020 will see the dawn of two intermediate updates, one very close in time, and the other more distant. According to Digitimes, the iPad Pro that will be presented in March will have roughly the same design as the current models: the difference is mainly under the hood, with a more powerful processor and graphics chip, and above all the 3D camera but no 5G.

A choice dictated by the need for rejuvenate the iPad Pro line a little after 18 months of substantial immobility.

In September, however, in conjunction with iPhone 12, it will be the turn of variants with 5G. Both will be supported sub-6GHz specifications (which guarantee wide coverage but reduced performance, suitable for countryside and sparsely populated areas), both mmWave or millimeter waves (which instead offer significantly higher performance but lower coverage, perfect for large cities).

These are the unofficial plans; then, of course, the canon the reality bath is needed. At the moment, the Coronavirus it is creating enormous upheaval not only in terms of health, but also in logistics and trade; in China, just to stay in the riverbed that interests us, the Apple Stores remain closed (the Beijing one has reopened with reduced hours), the factories go to a fraction of the maximum capacity, and those who try to customize the order of a Mac , must wait up to a month to receive it. And we are only at the beginning.

In other words, it is not at all obvious that iPad Pro and iPhone 12 will arrive on time and in the quantities needed for the apple. In fact, every effort made to block the spread of the epidemic seems to have a rather direct counterpart in terms of GDP, economic and development. And still there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
