Correct error 10016 in the Windows Event Viewer

febrero 9, 2020

Being a big tech fanatic, I hate it when my Windows machine isn't working flawlessly. I guess if I can't get my computer to work perfectly, then what kind of tech person am I? Obviously, trying to make everything work perfectly means spending a lot of time solving problems that probably don't cause major problems to my system.

However, still fun and you learn a lot. In this article, I'm talking about correcting the error that occurs in Event Viewer related to DistributedCOM . I noticed that I had no other errors in my registry system other than some every day with an event ID of 10016 . The basic error message was the same:

Le impostazioni delle autorizzazioni specifiche dell'applicazione non concedono l'autorizzazione di attivazione locale per l'applicazione server COM

He also listed a CLSID, an APPID, a SID, and something about changing permissions using Component Services.

After reading some dense forum posts, I managed to correct this error so that it no longer appeared in the Event Viewer. rather a process, so make sure you have an hour or two to spare before you start.

Step 1: Test the process

The first thing we need to figure out which process or service associated with the CLASS ID listed in the error. To do this, go ahead and copy the CLSID listed in the event description. In my case, started with {D63B10C5 . Make sure to copy the braces too.

Now you need to open the registry editor by clicking on start and typing regedit . When you have opened the registry editor, click Edit and then on Find . Go ahead and paste the CLSID into the search box and hit Enter.

After some time, you should get a result under the key HK_CLASSES_ROOT CLSID . On the right side, it should have two keys and that of default should list the name of the service. In my case and probably yours, it should be RuntimeBroker .

The AppID should also match what is listed in the error message. Next, we need to run a script so that we can make changes to the permissions in Component Services for this service.

Step 2: run PowerShell Script

To solve this problem, we need to change some permissions in Component Services for RuntimeBroker, but before we can do it we need to run a script that allows us to make these changes.

To run PowerShell as an administrator, you need to click Start, type in PowerShell and then right click on the result and choose Run as administrator .

Now go ahead and download the linked text file here and copy all the code and paste it into the PowerShell window (if you just right-click in the PowerShell window, it will accept everything on the clipboard). So just press Submit and you should see the writing Done printed.

Step 3: Open Component Services

can open Component services just like you opened PowerShell in step 2. Click Start and type the component services. It is not necessary to run this program as an administrator. Once there, go to the following path:

Servizi componenti - Computer - Risorse del computer - Config DCOM

Scroll down until you find it Runtime Broker . In my case, there were two! How do you know which one listed in the error?

Right click on each one and select properties . In the tab General, you will see the Application ID, which should match the appID from the error message. If you receive errors in the Event Viewer with an ID of 10016 and more than one CLSID, both RuntimeBrokers may need to be corrected. In my case, I just had to fix one.

Step 4: correct permissions

Finally, we need to change the permissions. In the RuntimeBroker properties window, click on the tab Safety .

The button Edit under Launch and activation permissions should be selectable. If disabled, the PowerShell script was not executed correctly. When you click edit, you may see a dialog box that warns you about unrecognized permissions.

Here you DON'T WANT to click Remove . Just click on the button Cancel . Now you will see a list of predefined accounts and you may also see a Unknown account listed.

Do you want to be sure to leave the unknown account cos com '. Do not remove it. At this point, you should stay with ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and the CAR . Now we need to add two accounts. click on add and type System, then click Check names . Do click up OK and add that account to the list.

click on Add of new and this time type in Local service and follow the same procedure.

Once both are added, click on them one at a time and select the check boxes Start local is Local activation in Allow . This all! Now go ahead and restart your computer and you should no longer see that error appear in the event view logs. To enjoy!
