Palm behind Compaq – Macitynet.it
Palm for the first time in the history of modern-day handhelds could end up second in something. To beat the Santa Clara company whose operating system at the base of more or less 90% of the market would be Compaq which in the course of this quarter would beat the competitor by turnover. The statistics, prepared by analyst Ken Dulanery of Gartner, is based on the assumption that Palm will see its sales drop significantly during the quarter while Compaq will post an increase due to orders placed by corporations. In the second quarter, Palm computers should not be more than 622,000 while those of Compaq, which uses the Microsoft PocketPc operating system, will be between 450,000 and 500,000. Since Compaq pocket computers cost much more than Palm computers (more than double) and this should determine the highest turnover.
