Apple withdraws PB G3 power supplies. Only in the USA. – Macitynet.it
Apple yesterday announced that it has ordered the withdrawal of
570,000 Powerbook power supplies.
The interesting models are those that accompanied the laptops sold between May 1998 and March 2000 but they are those with the double connector and not the triple one present on all models released in our country (model M5159).
Obviously if you purchased your laptop abroad and have an AC adapter with model number M4402, in North America, Asia, Latin America or Japan you could be candidates for the replacement that is made by contacting the appropriate Apple website where with a special card that also requires the serial number of your laptop to put Apple in the condition to make you have a new power supply.
Note that Apple's decision will entail a large economic outlay. Although the Cupertino company did not specify the costs of the operation, the commercial value of the power supplies added up to almost 20 million dollars, about 50 billion lire. Although the cost for Apple is obviously not the same it is an economically significant operation.
Apple recommends all those who have a power supply of the specified type not to leave it connected to the electricity without the presence of the user and to immediately request replacement
To date, there have been only six reported cases of overheating, Apple concludes
