Current owners of BlackBerry smartphones are expected to continue receiving after-sales services until August 31, 2022. In 2016, the Shenzhen-based company signed an agreement to produce and sell BlackBerry smartphones, after the historic brand decided to move its focus on this sector. BlackBerry KEYone, BlackBerry KEY2 is BlackBerry Motion are some of the BlackBerry phones designed, manufactured and sold by TCL Communication in the main markets, all three based on Android. The first two also had a physical keyboard along with a touchscreen panel.
BlackBerry Limited support was an essential element in bringing devices such as BlackBerry KEYone, Motion, KEY2 and KEY2 LE to life. we are proud to have collaborated with them in recent years to these projects. We regret, however, the need to make it known that starting from August 31, 2020, TCL Communication will no longer sell mobile devices under the BlackBerry brand, "said the company in a note published on Twitter.
The latest phone that the Chinese company launched on the market was the BlackBerry KEY 2 LE, presented in August 2018.
"The future brilliant for both TCL Communication and BlackBerry Limited and we hope you will continue to support us as we continue on our respective paths, "reads the note.
However, in addition to BlackBerry, TCL Communication has other authorized brands, including Alcatel and Palm. If for the Chinese multinational the probability that this farewell does not have a rather high impact, the same cannot be said for BlackBerry, which could also be affected by this "break". At the moment, according to some rumors, the future of the Canadian company appears far from rosy.
