iPhone, 10% was purchased to be unlocked? – Macitynet.it
10% of the iPhones would have been sold to companies or individuals willing to unlock them to resell them abroad or to use them on networks that are not those of At & T. These are the conclusions reached by Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray.
Munster would have personally verified this situation, in visits to some Apple retail stores. In direct Apple stores it would not be rare to find people who also buy five phones, a practice that makes sense only if you intend to resell the mobile phone after unlocking it. One of the cities where there is certainly an iPhone trade for unlocking New York; to testify it would be the same employees of the Apple stores.
Munster estimates that 10% of the phones that are sold unlocked once purchased. Obviously, this percentage has now become insignificant as the software update would have made it much more difficult to unlock the phones.
