Windows 10 Fall Creators update: all new features and changes

enero 14, 2020

Last month, Microsoft eliminated the update for the creators of Windows 10 with many features that attracted professionals. Well, it seems that the Creators update doesn't stop there, because Microsoft has just announced the update for Windows 10 Fall Creators which is ready to be released later this year. The update under development with the codename "Redstone 3".

The Redmond giant sees the upcoming update as a continuation of their focus on creation and has therefore decided to stick to the same name as "Creators Update". At Microsoft's Build event, the company revealed some of the new features that Fall's creator update promises to bring. In terms of things, even bigger and more exciting than the current Creator Update. So, without further ado, let's take a look at all new features and changes in the Windows 10 Fall Creators update:

Fluent Design System

Remember Project Neon ? Yes, the code name of the new Microsoft user interface for Windows. Well, now it has an official name and it's called Fluent Design System. This new design change is considered an evolution of Metro UI (or Modern UI, as it was known later), which was initially introduced together with Windows 8 in 2012. We will be able to experience part of this new Fluent Design user interface. in the next Fall Creators Update, but this is only the beginning, with many improvements in the future. Replace Metro UI and can be seen through the Microsoft apps which are also available on Android and iOS.

The current user interface we are using is almost 5 years old, so the design change is definitely a welcome addition. Microsoft's Fluent Design System has five basic elements : light, depth, movement, material and scale. While these fundamentals seem valid, we only know that the new UI is quite interesting. In addition, the Mixed Reality headphones, just around the corner, will take full advantage of the Fluent Design System on the whole operating system. Well, you can check out Microsoft's video about their new design language to clearly understand what we're talking about.

Timeline

Microsoft claims that this new feature is the easiest way to get back to whoever is working. Let me get this straight. Consider a user running multiple Windows applications, for example. When the user clicks the activity switch button, he will immediately notice that the user interface has evolved to include the timeline. The upper part of this timeline screen shows a number of apps that are currently running. Below this line, the user will be able to check all the activities of the past .

With the Windows 10 timeline, users will be able to travel back in time to take a look at their business and continue where they left off exactly, as if nothing had happened . It doesn't matter if the activity was done hours or even months ago. Users will be able to easily return to their files, apps and sites, as if they had never left.

Collect where you left off with Cortana

The Timeline feature we just discussed becomes a lot more interesting if you have multiple devices . Pick up where an extension of the Timeline left off. Let's assume that a user has a secondary device, such as a smartphone or laptop. If the user stops working on the main device and switches to the secondary device and starts using it, he / she will be able to continue the work, exactly where the work on the primary device was stopped with the help of Cortana, and therefore the name, pick up where you left off.

Now, how exactly does this work, you might ask? Well, Cortana implemented as an AI in the cloud and, consequently, able to examine the Microsoft chart data and recognize that the user was working on the main device. So once the user starts using the secondary device, Cortana opens up on the screen asking if the user wants to pick up where he left off.

Story Remix

Guys, do you still remember Windows Movie Maker? If so, consider Story Remix to be the successor of the long application used to create family videos. The Story Remix application allow users to add computer-generated effects, soundtracks and titles to their family videos . In addition to this, Story Remix will also allow you to stitch up the images and add music, 3D objects, transitions, thus helping you to convert them into lively stories that anyone can enjoy, instead of watching a boring presentation. This may not necessarily be the software you will use if you are a professional, but there are many other interesting features that Story Remix promises to introduce in the next Fall Creators Update. So, take a look at Microsoft's video for an in-depth look at their video editing application.

OneDrive Files On-Demand

With OneDrive Files On-Demand, users will be able to access their files from the cloud and, in turn, save tons of storage space on their devices. All files will be displayed in File Explorer and these files will also be available on other devices in signed in to your OneDrive account. OneDrive placeholders were a feature that originally came along with Windows 8.1. It worked similarly to Files On-Demand, until it was removed long before the initial release of Windows 10. Of course, good news that the feature is returning under a new name in the next Fall Creators Update. OneDrive Files On-Demand completely cloud-based and will download only the files you need when you need them. If you are running out of storage space, OneDrive Files On-Demand may be the feature you will be using very soon.

Notes powered by the cloud

We all love and enjoy copying and pasting, don't we? I mean, how much easier can it be? Well, it seems that the people of Microsoft have an answer for that question. They are literally copying and pasting to the next level. Presentation of clipboard with cloud technology, a feature that allows you to copy and paste between Windows 10, iOS and Android devices . Sure, Apple already has similar universal notes, but thanks to their closed ecosystem, we need to own their products to make it work. This is not the case with Microsoft and this is exactly what makes the Cloud-based clipboard special. Microsoft creates a timeline of the content that the user has copied and uses its Swiftkey keyboard with graphics enabled to synchronize the notes on multiple platforms. Microsoft is also planning to implement the cloud-based clipboard directly into the Office apps, but will arrive in a later update.

Mixed reality improvements

Mixed Reality was introduced in the Creators Update released last month. However, there are some improvements that will be seen in the upcoming Fall Creators Update. Mixed Reality has been implemented in upcoming Microsoft features that will arrive with the update, such as Story Remix that allows you to create mixed realities adding 3D objects to your photos and videos to tell stories in a completely new way. The new Fluent Design System by Microsoft ready to take full advantage of mixed reality . In addition to this, Microsoft has also announced its Mixed Reality headphone motion controllers. The company also revealed that companies like Acer and HP will begin shipping their mixed headsets to developers this summer, with pre-orders currently accepted.

Update date for Windows 10 Fall Creators

It doesn't take a genius to realize that the Autumn Creators Update is coming this fall. Having said that, the company has already said that the next update for Windows will arrive in September, but the autumn will not begin until September 23. So, we can expect the creators autumn update to be released in the last week of September . If you don't think you can wait that long, you can sign up for the Windows Insider program to access the test build, which already has some of the features that the next update will bring to the final version.
