How to use only LTE and 3G connections on Android

Does your smartphone connect too often to Edge networks or even worse in GPRS compromising your Internet browsing? Even if there is 3G or LTE coverage in the area where you are, the smartphone may still switch to 2G connectivity if the latter's signal is strong. To return to fast surfing you can follow this practical guide, where I will show you how to use only LTE and 3G connections on Android without root.

We will see how to proceed to connect only to LTE and 3G networks, avoiding the slower Edge and GPRS connection on different Android devices, such as Xiaomi, Samsung, LG, Motorola / Lenovo and Huawei smartphones. If you also have this problem, read on to find out how.

Use only LTE and 3G connections

Xiaomi

To set up a Xiaomi smartphone to use only LTE / 3G connections, just go to the menu Settings -> About phone and tap numerous times on Internal memory. A secret menu will open with settings normally reserved for programmers.

To force the phone to use only LTE / 3G connections you will need to tap on Phone information; if your Dual SIM smartphone you will see two menus (Telephone information 1 and 2), each to be configured separately. Once done tap on Phone informationscroll down to find the drop-down menu Set preferred network type.

From this drop-down menu set the item LTE / WCDMA, which precisely identifies the technologies you want to "force" on your smartphone. Once the item is selected, restart the phone for the changes to take effect.

LG

If you have an LG smartphone, the procedure for using only LTE / 3G connections is as follows:

  • Open the numeric keypad and type * # 546368 # * 840 #
  • In the new menu select FIELD TEST, then MODEM SETTINGS
  • Now select the RAT SELECTION menu
  • Set the voice LTE / WCDMA

A confirmation window will appear with SUCCESS written. I recommend you restart your phone for the changes to take effect.

Samsung

Do you have a Samsung smartphone? In this case you can only use LTE / 3G connections by following the procedure described below:

  • Open the numeric keypad and type * # * # 4636 * # * #
  • In the new menu select Phone information
  • Scroll down to find the Set preferred network type drop-down menu
  • Set the voice LTE / WCDMA

At the end of the change of setting, restart your device to make the changes effective.

Motorola / Lenovo

Do you have a new generation Moto smartphone? To access the secret menu and use only LTE / 3G connections, follow the steps described below:

  • Open the numeric keypad and type * # * # 4636 * # * #
  • In the new menu select Device information
  • Scroll down to find the Set preferred network type drop-down menu
  • Set the voice LTE / WCDMA

When the change is complete, restart the phone to make the changes effective.

Huawei

If you own a Huawei smartphone, you can only use LTE / 3G connections by following the procedure described below:

  • Open the numeric keypad and type * # * # 2846579 # * # *
  • In the new menu select Device information
  • Scroll down to find the Set preferred network type drop-down menu
  • Set the voice LTE / WCDMA
  • Restart the phone to confirm the changes

With this app you will immediately be redirected to the correct menu where you can change the preferred network type and use only LTE and 3G connections. It doesn't work on all devices, but an attempt you can do it without problems.
