The iTunes video section will debut in Europe before the end of the year. This is what Pascal Cagni, head of Apple Europe, reported to the French magazine Les Echos.
In the short interview Pascal Cagni is asked to justify the reasons for the delay compared to the forecasts that spoke of a launch of the "video" version of iTunes in Europe by spring. "We have to recode the contents – says Cagni, probably referring to the audio dubbing – and this takes time". No problem, however, as regards the alleged resistance by the TV channels that hold the rights: "they have no particular arguments to oppose -. It is the producers who make these decisions. "
Cagni also talks about Apple Europe's retail strategies, citing the inauguration of the Rome store as a first step in a series. "We will have one in Paris * says Cagni officially confirming the rumor that he wanted the French capital as one of the cities where an Apple store will rise * but we still don't know when. Our aim is to make these stores a showcase for our brand, using the strategy that is used to promote luxury cars and objects. " In any case, Apple will not forget the Apple Premium Resellers retail stores which in Europe will increase from 250 to 500 in 12/18 months. Among the ongoing initiatives also the expansion of visibility also in large retail stores. A sort of "store within store" should be created in about seventy European department stores (for France FNAC, Carrefour, Surcouf, Boulanger) which should be specifically managed by Apple.
The goal of this strategy is to bring European turnover to € 5 billion over the 12 months that will end in 2007.
As regards iPhone, confirmation is received that its arrival in Europe is expected in the last quarter of the year (ie from October onwards) and that the marketing strategy on the channels will be the same as that followed in the USA: "It will not be available from Apple Premium Resellers but only through the channel of the chosen telephony carrier (not mentioned, of course, for Europe) and the online store of Apple itself, as well as in the Apple Stores.
